État recuit, semi-dur et dur.
Le laiton est un alliage de cuivre et de zinc (Cu + Zn) qui possède différentes qualités/caractéristiques en fonction de la proportion de chaque métal. En outre, d’autres matériaux peuvent être utilisés dans sa composition, donnant lieu à des combinaisons adaptées aux différents besoins.
La malléabilité du laiton dépend ainsi de la température à laquelle les substances sont mélangées et de la proportion de chacune d’entre elles.
Principales propriétés du laiton :
- Une usinabilité et une ductilité supérieures à celles des autres alliages.
- Résistance à l’usure.
- C’est un bon conducteur électrique.
- Il possède d’excellentes propriétés de soudage.
- Le laiton est un métal facilement recyclable, dont les déchets peuvent être facilement séparés et refondus autant de fois que nécessaire.
- Il ne s’altère pas avec des températures extrêmes comprises entre -100 ºC et 200 ºC et ne se dégrade pas avec la lumière.
- Il présente une grande résistance à la corrosion et à l’oxydation, même dans des conditions salines.
